Upper Silver Lake, July 2010
Jessica and I were driving around western Michigan and visiting a familiar site: Silver Lake and its impressive sand dunes. But then we went wandering around the town’s back roads and found another small lake just a bit inland–it’s called Upper Silver Lake and while it is a private, upscale vacation area it lacks the bustling and exciting vibe of the area around Silver Lake (with its dramatic sand dunes separating it from Lake Michigan) in the summer time.
Stony Lake, Michigan, July 23, 2010
When I was a little kid and would go to up north to western Michigan (from Illinois), I wasn’t a particularly good swimmer, so the turbulent waters of Lake Michigan were a bit intimidating anywhere past the first sandbar. On the other hand, I really liked Stony Lake–a small, placid lake five miles down the road. This photo is actually of the area of the lake I swam in years ago–little has changed. While Jessica was out in southern California visiting her father over the Fathers Day weekend, I went up to Michigan and spent the weekend with my parents and grandparents up along the lake–and I got to visit with some of my other relatives up there as well, as you can see from the dinner photo.
I took a picture of Jessica as we walked and watched the sunset in front of the beach house last weekend when we were in Michigan.
And as I mentioned in an earlier post, Jessica and I took a late evening drive along Scenic Drive to the Silver Lake light house the next day. The photo is a camera phone snapshot with which Jessica skillfully caught the oscillating light.
Jessica and I drove out to western Michigan this Memorial Day weekend to enjoy the beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline out there between Benona Shores and White Lake in western Michigan. We met up there at the Michago beach house with Rob and Jim and Ed, and they got to meet our birds who had come along for the trip as well.
Aside from enjoying the amazing weather at the house, lots of fun stops awaited us in town, including a cruise on the sand dunes in Silver Lake, a round of golf, a stop at Dog n’ Suds in Montague, and a run for supplies in Whitehall. After the guests took off, Jessica and I also enjoyed a nice dinner together and later went on a fun twilight drive to a lighthouse.
